The task does come to its logical end. Your essay paper will be ready to be turned in, but there is only one more problem left to be solved, and this problem is editing your essay. Yes, there are differences between proofreading and editing, and these are two completely dissimilar tasks, which follow one common goal – to make essay writing perfect and polished, and to eliminate all inaccuracies. Proofreading essays is called to correct minor mistakes such as misspelling, typos, grammatical errors and punctuation marks. Editing essays is a more major project. Its task is to make an essay paper a single and united text that is perfectly correct.

The first thing you look at whenever editing an essay is that the text corresponds to the main idea and gives the answer to the thesis statement of your paper. For novice writers it is better to write a thesis statement on a separate piece of paper and put it somewhere near to look at constantly. All of the essay parts have to support the thesis statement, and the facts have to be strong enough to bring forward and defend ideas. If you don’t have it, and in the end your essay paper wanders away from the topic, grading will be corresponding to the content.

Second thing about editing essays is the content itself. Is your introduction written the way it should be? Do you actually have a thesis and grounds for writing? Also, take a look at body paragraphs and pay specific attention to the introductory sentences and transition phrases. The parts of the text have to fit together and link to each other into a strong chain of statements.

The final part of editing the essay is the overall flow. For it, try to read your essay writing out loud. The ear will catch clumsy words and phrases, repeating, and other weak spots. If you are not able to hear it, give your essay paper to someone else who is eligible to edit it and give a good feedback. Do not neglect essay editing if you want your paper to be perfect.
