It’s My Day

Sometimes it’s better to stop for a moment and enjoy the minute of life.

I realized it was the moment, when after mentioning the words “study”,”essay”, “written dissertation>” and coursework my hands started shaking, and my feat – bending. I definitely needed some relaxation. All this time I was working hard on my grades. I even forgot when was the last time I got out with my friends and had coffee. Unbelievable!

So I just sat down and told myself, “Girl, if you don’t give yourself a break, you can forget about being able to learn anything else”. I thought about possible options. Do I want to go to the movies? No. Doing something ordinary won’t help me a bit. Do I want to go shopping? I don’t think so. Plus, my closet is going to declare war on me if I try to put at least one more shirt into it. I can barely close it. My eyes stopped at the corner of the room. There, in an old brown bag, laid my roller skates. They are waiting patiently for me for already half a year. Of course! How could I forget about them?

I called my best friend: “What would you say about spending the rest of the day on roller skates?” I knew she would support me.

Are you familiar with this great feeling when you wake up in the morning and know that this day is going to be completely wonderful? Even the sun is shining more brightly, and French toasts taste better than vanilla ice-cream.

We met on a central street. Both on roller skates and with backpacks behind our shoulders, we headed to a park. We knew that there is a long wide bridge over the river that is smooth enough to give us good skating time. Plus, there are a lot of pigeons that fly up into the sky when you rush into their flock! And if you stretch your arms, you can even get a feeling that you are flying with them.

When we were tired enough to give our feet some rest, we headed to a really neat little store. It sold all kinds of accessories for artists. One thing I like about it is that you can actually see how to use all these sorts of clay, paints and applications, because they put sample works of artists next to all customer’s goods. I bought two sheets of purple rice paper for a birthday card, and some yellow glitter. Since I love making presents with my hands, I know what I’m going to do tonight.

When we got out of that store, I felt that I needed to sit down. We’ve been rolling for about four hours now, so my feet were begging for some rest. There’s nothing better than sitting on the grass under warm sunrays, eating cheesecake, drinking milk, and doing nothing! Just enjoying. If all of us tried to do it more often, our capacity for work would’ve increased enormously.

Big city life makes us run all the time. Once in a while, we get terrible headache because we spend most of our time in front of computers: working, writing, again working…. We are constantly busy. We get obsessed with our grades, GPAs, entrance exams, homework assignments. And when our brain stops functioning, we try to reanimate it, but all in vain.

A day that brings you nothing but joy is going to be more useful than an hour with a psychotherapist. I had an opportunity to try it myself. Next time I feel I’m going crazy because of studying, I’ll do the same thing – I’ll have a day that is full of positive emotions.
