At first, it might seem that citation style is not that important part of the text format. But different sciences have different citation styles and, when a wrong one is used, it might spoil all of your work. There are tons of citation styles and we will briefly introduce you to all of them.
The ACS citation style (American Chemical Society) is used when conducting and creating scientific works in the field of chemistry. APA citation style (American Psychological Association) is used mostly in social sciences. The description of sources, especially from the Internet, is more detailed if compared with the MLA style. APSA citation (American Political Science Association) is used only by the political scholars and scientists. Sociological works use ASA citation style (American Sociological Association). Bluebook is another citation system. It is used only by lawyers and in all of the scientific works connected to this field of knowledge. Another style competing with Bluebook that is used in law books is ALWD. The CBE style (Council of Biology Editors) is used not only in biology, but also in other scientific researches and papers. Chicago and Turabian styles are quite wide spread; they are used in social science and humanities. Columbia style is a mixture, it helps when writing a paper and it doesn’t really matter whether in science or in humanities.
Another important style is Harvard Style. It is peculiar for its reference that is put underneath the citation. IEEE style is used in computer science. MHRA style (Modern Humanity Research Association.) is used in humanities, which is somewhat similar to the MLA citation style. The difference is that this style uses footnotes that entirely references a citation and has a bibliography at the end.
