Reading film reviews on the internet, you might say that it is all about opinion, or “I can do that”. However, the latter is only partially true, and while writing film reviews is indeed accessible to many people, it is not only about opinion. Writing film reviews requires several aspects, in which opinion is only a single aspect. The good thing is that with the widespread use of the internet, writing film reviews is not limited to your school or college assignments, but can be also your hobby, or even a source of small income.

Watching the Films

First thing first, writing film reviews, as you might have understood, requires watching the films you are writing about. Such task might be easy, considering that we do that all the time. However, it would be recommended that you do some research before you start writing film reviews, in which information about the film, the authors, other works by the same director, and films of same genre will add credibility to your review.

Avoiding Spoilers

Additionally, writing film reviews requires a brief coverage of the film’s plot. In that regard, the writer should be careful between covering the film main turns, so that the reader will be interested, without revealing too much of plot details, so that the intrigue remains. Writing film reviews is about keeping such balance, where one details mentioned in the review might ruin the enjoyment of watching the film afterwards.

Objectivity

An important aspect in writing film reviews is related to objectivity. Personal taste is not a fixed entity, and in that regard, stating that the movie is bad or good cannot be completely an objective process. The point in writing film reviews is eliminating any factors of preferences in assessing the quality of the film.
