Why Does Thesis Length Matter So Much? Learn about This!
How come that you have to write a thesis but do not know what the thesis length should be? Anyway, this article will help you no matter what the reason is. Let us talk about thesis length. What does it depend on?
Thesis length: Is it really that important?
Some educational institutions have a standard thesis length. When the thesis length is standard, there is no way you can break the rules. If your university states that your thesis should be 80 pages, you have no choice but write 80 pages on the given topic. However, in most of the cases, thesis length depends on the topic of your thesis and its subject. Generally, thesis length should be around 40 pages but it may vary. As a rule, it depends on the following:
- The font size and type that you use. This also depends on the requirements of your university. Such fonts as Arial, Bookman Old Style, Century Gothic, etc are originally larger than, for instance, Times New Roman. Consequently, the thesis length changes depending on the font type. So, before agreeing on the thesis length with your professor, agree on the font type first.
- The topic you have chosen. The topic also affects the thesis length much. Sometimes, developing the topic is complicated due to the scarceness of resources or for some other reasons. However, when the topic is more general, thesis length can be up to 50 pages.
- Your ability to be laconic. You probably know that one and the same idea can be expressed in different words. If you have this ability to make up something from nothing, you should better forget about it when writing your thesis. Your main purpose here is to write for brevity.
So, forget about the thesis length and try to be as specific as you can in your thesis!
