How to Write a Lab Report That Enhances Your Skills at Experiments
Are you a student of science who does a lot of experimental work in the lab? Then a lab report would be a walk in the park for you. A lab report is something that you use to report the experimental data that comes out after performing experiments in the lab.
The lab report can be used to collect and display data that is the result of painstaking experimental work. The lab report is to be based on the actual findings of the experiments and not on fanciful assumptions. It becomes apparent that the lab report is one of a series of reports that need to be developed following experiments conducted in the lab.
Focus on Actual Results
The lab report that you write must focus on the actual experiments that you have conducted and not on any other data that you would have accumulated. Hence, the lab report must exclusively be based on independent and verifiable data and not on the apparent or the assumed results. The lab report must also take into account the corrections that are allowed for experimental purposes. The lab report must clearly indicate the date and time when the experiments were done.
Keep a Log
Since it is not possible to include all the details of the various experiments conducted over a period of several months, it is better to maintain a log of the various experiments that you have conducted since the beginning of the term and use it for analysis and reaching the conclusions. The lab report must include the conclusions reached after the experiments and you must be in a position to validate the results by other means.
Finally, a lab report must make the results of the experiments known to the readers and the examiners and must fulfill the format and layout requirements set forth by the school.
